Lisa did not own a computer before she began classes at the University of Nebraska’s Peter Kiewit Institute. Through her internship as an associate programmer at Ameritrade, she found the challenges, creativity and problem-solving she wanted in a career. Lisa also found her coursework in the College of IS&T to be just what she needed to contribute at Ameritrade almost from the first day.

Now a junior, Lisa held internships since her freshman year, first at Inacom Corp. and now at Ameritrade. “If I didn’t have an internship, I wouldn’t know how to talk to people and how to present my ideas.” She treasures advice from more experienced co-workers. “They’ve been out in the world. They tell me what mistakes they made in college so I can avoid them,” she said.

Lisa works 20-25 hours a week during the school year while carrying 18 credit hours at school. She says her internship provides a fun atmosphere, and a great experience!
